Pre Big Build
Forward planning has been very essential in every aspect of the big build, from obtaining planning permission to ordering your bricks (6 weeks normally). Every person and every product has an order time - get it wrong and you are screwed.

Each trade will know how long it will take them, if it’s in a logical order and there are no hiccups. If you mess your tradesmen around they will do the same back causing disruption to your time table. That’s a fact!

They would have priced for the job so check exactly what’s included and what is not and always agree a completion date, holding back 10% money till the job is finished, including snagging.

Always get written confirmation of this date and the other information and keep it in a file with every one else’s info. That way if it’s a long job you will know where everything you need is.

I will offer advice and experiences good and bad, as we go along through the workings of the big build, so hopefully when you do it yourself you will avoid the obstacles and embrace the good times.

And remember keep your workers happy - milk and two sugars!
